Theater The Fox is the last
remaining movie theater building in downtown Columbia. It was recently
purchased by the Columbia Film Society which hopes it will become home
to the Nickelodeon Theater by 2009. To stay current with activities
relating to this project, visit www.nickelodeon.org

| The Fox originally opened as the State Theater on July 2, 1936. It was air conditioned and had a men's lounge and women's parlor. There was a handsome marquee and a glass and tile box office. The interior boasted red plush seats, sunset pillars and modern wall sconces. When it opened, there were four other movie theaters on Main Street. | ![]() |
