Men's Coffee Club
Mount Pleasant, SC - May 28, 2008

We enjoyed the folks at the Men's Coffee Club at Alhambra Hall in Mount Pleasant at their monthly meeting in May. Dick King asked me to share some of the many stories Mark and I have collected about South Carolina's single screen movie theaters. The club meets every fourth Wednesday of the month.

Film Exhibition Research Project
Clemson, SC - July 11, 2008

Dr. James M. Burns, who teaches Film and History at Clemson University, is offering students an opportunity to participate in a research project on the first several decades of the history of film exhibition in South Carolina. He is hoping his students discover some interesting local history material and are able to publish or widly share their materials.

Dr. Burns’s first book, Flickering Shadows: Cinema and Identity in Colonial Zimbabwe, a study of how European leaders used film as an imperial tool and how colonial Africans resisted in unexpected and surprising ways, was named by Choice magazine as one of its Outstanding Academic Titles for 2002.
